The Sullivan Ballou Film Project

SBFP Purpose

Overview

Sullivan Ballou is a twenty-minute film of a young modern-day bride-to-be. She becomes widowed the day before marrying into a multi-generation military family. She finds her crushed spirit rescued after reading the romantic inspired lyrics of Major Sullivan Ballou.

This real letter was sent to his wife during the American Civil War and is included in our film. His words tell of his tortured choice between love of country and family. Principal photography was shot on 35-millimeter film in and around San Luis Obispo, California.

The Objective

Once the film is completed, Mooner Entertainment will:
  • Offer video cassette copies to civilian and military supporters of military widows and widowers, a need that arises from the approximately 2,000 annual noncombat military deaths (Pentagon figures.)
  • Assist the fund raising efforts of the Sullivan Ballou Museum however possible.
  • Submit and promote the work at film festivals throughout the world; and
  • Showcase our cast and crew's work to other film industry professionals.

If the film is well received, we plan to become an on site vendor on national music tours and other events and solicit donations through merchandising and other creative efforts. Our tent show will showcase Sullivan Ballou.
